Why Stay in Buñol?
La Tomatina is the world's largest food fight, held annually on the last Wednesday of August in the small Valencian town of Buñol. Over 20,000 participants pelt each other with 150 tonnes of overripe tomatoes in a spectacular hour of organised chaos that has become one of Spain's most famous festivals.
Buñol itself has very limited accommodation, so most visitors stay in Valencia (40 km away) and take special bus or train services to the event. Valencia offers a wide range of hotels from budget hostels to luxury beachfront properties, plus an exceptional food scene and beautiful Old Town.
Hotels near Valencia's Estación del Norte or in the historic Ciutat Vella district offer the most convenient access to transport links to Buñol. Many tour companies offer shuttle packages from Valencia that include transport, entry tickets, and even fresh clothes for the return journey.
La Tomatina creates a unique spectacle — entire streets run red with tomato juice, and participants emerge completely drenched in pulp. The atmosphere is purely joyful, with music, dancing, and celebration before and after the main tomato battle.
